Gum disease begins quietly. Bacterial plaque hardens into calculus at the gum line, the gums become inflamed, and they bleed when brushed. At this stage — gingivitis — it is entirely reversible.
Left alone, the inflammation spreads below the gum and starts destroying the bone that holds teeth in place. This is periodontitis, and the bone lost does not grow back. It is the single largest cause of tooth loss in adults, and it is usually painless until it is advanced.
Bleeding gums are not normal. Healthy gums do not bleed when brushed, any more than healthy skin bleeds when washed. If yours do, that is the sign worth acting on.

Root planing
For deeper pockets, cleaning of the root surfaces below the gum to remove the deposits that keep the inflammation going. Done under local anaesthesia where needed.

Technique coaching
The largest factor in the outcome is what happens at home. We show you exactly where you are missing, using your own mouth rather than a chart.

Re-evaluation
We remeasure after healing to confirm the pockets have responded. Sites that have not may need further treatment or referral.

Maintenance
Periodontitis is controlled rather than cured. A recall interval — usually three to six months — keeps it stable.
